Deal of the Week: Hotel deals in the Rockies and Southwest (8/30/2002) Well, it's not every day you find a bargain on a hotel in a couple of America's legendary vacation spots, but that's what our Travel-Expert-in-Residence, Rudy Maxa, has for us: a great price at the Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Colorado, and another for a luxury hotel in Santa Fe, the Inn on the Alameda. Both hotels are luxury properties right in the middle of the action. So, you have your choice: autumn in the Rockies, or winter in the Southwest. The Hotel Jerome is offering rooms at $125 a night through November 21st -- a savings of up to $300 a night, depending on the date you book. In Santa Fe, the Inn on the Alameda will sell you a room in January and February for just $127 a night -- that's a nearly 20 percent savings over the room rate during the same period last year. While the prices are great, there's nothing budget about either hotel. King beds with down comforters await you at the Hotel Jerome -- and, it has one of the most "happening" bars in town. Think: fall foliage, hot-air ballooning, fly fishing --anything and everything outdoors. Santa Fe means artists, spas and skiing. And, the Inn on the Alameda features handmade furniture, outdoor hot tubs, fireplaces, and a great breakfast buffet that is included in your room rate. So, what if you can't make it to Aspen or Santa Fe, but you still want to look for good prices at luxury hotels? Like everyone else, the high-end properties have had a tough year, too, so they've started putting excess rooms online for sale at a deep discount. Check out Allluxuryhotels.com, which claims to have low prices on fine hotels in 90 U.S. destinations, and 40 overseas. There's also find-luxury-hotels.com and luxurylink.com. Also, call around to New York City hotels away from Ground Zero -- they've been really struggling, and now may be a great time to get a fantastic price on a room in the Big Apple.
