Deal of the Week: Holiday Airfare Deals (10/26/2001)
Last week, the deals were starting to come, this week, they're flowing. American launched a big sale on domestic fares including holiday travel through December fourth. Book your Christmas, Hanukah, and Thanksgiving travel now. Delta announced its double-miles promotion would be extended from mid-November to mid-December - it'll be interesting to see if other airlines match that. But what's really amazing are some of these terrific international fares I'm finding this week. I think we may have touched bottom this past week when US Airways offered an e-saver fare round trip from its hubs in North Carolina to Madrid, Spain for $275. Oh, and you got double miles! That deal is over, but now United has a sale that is good for travel all the way through March 14th of next year. BUT . . . you must purchase your tickets by this Monday, October 29th. Here are some sample, round-trip fares if you buy on line: Chicago-Amsterdam, $340. Denver-Frankfurt, 3-98. Washington, DC-Brussels, $246. DC-Milan, 2-84. San Francisco-Tokyo, only $378! I paid more for my last DC-LA ticket! Here's another offer from the West Coast. Fly China Southern - that's the largest airline in the People's Republic of China - between LA and Guangzhou aboard a new, Boeing triple-seven for $699 round trip. Check out autumn in the Pearl River Delta or connect to other flights throughout China. This deal is good until December 13, and no advance reservations are required. Now here's something a bit different. A tour company called Djoser is offering big reductions on its small-group tours January through March, to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, South Africa, Peru, and Ecuador including the Galapagos. A 16-day package, including flights and hotels and local guides costs $1,395 per person from LA, or less than $100 a day. And that's the Deal of the Week!
