Deal of the Week: A Swank Aspen Hotel...on Sale! (7/27/2001) Well, generally, you don't think of Aspen, Colorado this time of year, though it's beautiful in the mountains in the summertime. The air is crisp and cool, and it's like enjoying fall when most of the country is sweltering. And these days, you're in luck. Because one of America's priciest ski resorts - the Hotel Jerome -- is having a sale. It's maybe Aspen's fanciest and most legendary hotel. Picture this: rooms more spacious than many people's apartments...fire places...full spa-facilities. And right now, the whole thing is on sale. Now, normally, a double room at Hotel Jerome goes for about $600-a-night in the winter - $400-a-night in the summer. But for selected nights this summer and fall, rates are as low as $95 a night. Now, you have to know to ask about these rates - they don't want the word spreading too far. And the best deals are for late October and early November. You can go earlier to see the leaves change - and get the same low rates - but then you do get into some restrictions: the $95 rate is subject to room availability. But I'll tell you: I just got off the phone with the Hotel Jerome reservation folks, and most nights are still available!
