Smoke-Free Bar in Paris

Thought you would like to know about the first smoke-free bar in Paris: "La belle Hortense", 31 rue Vieille du Temple, 75004 Paris (quartier du Marais), which I understand is also an intellectual hangout. This should certainly appear in your resources for people with disabilities, but there are many folks out there who love Paris, but have trouble with the ubiquitous smoking.

According to my source, Globalink, an international tobacco control network, "the first bar in Paris to go completely no- smoking has seen its turnover drop by 90 percent in a week. However, owner Xavier Denamur, himself a smoker, is sticking with the new policy, saying, "I thought it was time for a no-smoking bar. Fair enough, we've lost in the short term, but we intend to build up a new clientele."

Perhaps the Savvy Traveler could help!

Great show--I always tune in when I can.

Caryn
