Tacky Travel

I heard the report last week on the show on Kathy's Freak Farm and was intrigued. My three sisters and I take an annual vacation--no spouses, no kids, just us--the theme of which is "Tacky Tours." Our first trip was to the Black Hills; we've also visited concrete sculpture gardens and grottos in Western Wisonsin and Iowa; Branson, MO; and last year, for our 5th anniversary trip, Graceland.

Now, these places may not be tacky to some or in themselves, but we look for the tacky wherever we go. For example, we make it a policy to stop and take our photograph with any larger-than-life statue (the Jolly Green Giant in Blue Earth, MN; the huge prairie gopher outside the Badlands, etc.); we've also stayed in a hotel that had in-room hot tubs made out of copper cheese-making vats. Many friends have suggested other places we "must" visit, and we're compiling a list of potential vacation spots for the years to come (the 10th anniversary destination is already chosen: Las Vegas).

In any case, please continue reports on the odd and tacky places people visit--it helps us in our planning and supplies us with lots of options for future "Kinney Sisters Tacky Tours."

I listen to the show almost every week and very much enjoy it. It makes my Tuesday lunch hours in the office much more pleasant!

-Jane
