A Man and His Bass
Dear Savvy Traveler,
I enjoyed the piece "A Man and His Bass." I play bass and had the
good fortune to substitute with the Boston Pops a few times. When we
went a long distance the bass had to go to Symphony Hall several days
before the concert (to be put in a large trunk for a truck ride) and
I took the plane. On one occasion, I can't remember why it was
necessary, we took the basses on the plane. Unlike your story, my
bass went in first class seats. The whole plane was chartered for
the orchestra.
