The Strangest Thing I've Eaten Is...Snake Parts

While in Wenzhou, China in 1995, my wife, a daughter, her husband and I were guests at banquet. At the beginning I was brought a small glass of a strong liquor with a snake's gall bladder. I was told to swallow the gall bladder whole without biting it. I was told that the honored guest often is given this part of the snake and that it would be good for my eyesight. My daughter and son-in-law were given the blood of the snake also in a small glass of strong liquor. They were told that this would help produce a family. Ten months later, there was a new grandchild in our family.
