The Grand Canyon in Winter

Hi Rudy,

Last January, my wife Libby and I met one of my best friends, and a friend of hers, to hike to the bottom of the Canyon.

It was snowing lightly for the first third of the hike, raining lightly for the second third, and cleared up for the final third. The temperature was great and NOT TOO HOT.

Regarding the horses, there is a weight limit of 200 pounds, and since I am quite a bit over the limit, Libby and I trained for the hike for a few months. It was hard, but not overly so.

We stayed in the dorms at the bottom. I stayed with 11 of my closest friends (strangers) and the three women stayed with only three other women. The benefits of staying in the dorms are a slight cost advantage and that there is a toilet and shower. Next time we'll be staying in a cabin, with the benefit of privacy, and so that Libby and I will be able to stay together.

We can't recommend the Grand Canyon in winter enough.

I really enjoy your show,

Sincerely,

Frank Doft
San Diego, CA

PS (FYI) The McBurney-Y is THE Y from the famous disco-era Village-People's song "YMCA".
