Epitome of "America"

I have three candidate locations for the most "American" travel spot. In no particular order:

  1. The Grand Canyon -- because nobody else has got one or anything remotely like it, so far as I know. It's our most singular natural phenomenon.

  2. Mesa Verde -- the most impressive and extensive cliff-dwelling site of the Anasazi makes this the largest testimony to the original human inhabitants.

  3. Ellis Island -- because a visit to Ellis Island and a few hours of self-touring there gives one a much clearer understanding of why the country of today got this way.
