Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Cherokee

I just had to comment about the places people went to and wished they had not. One caller talked of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. These two cities are the most gut-wrenching, appalling, disgusting tourist traps ever created. STAY AWAY!!!! As you go through Gatlinburg, into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is beautiful, you come out in Cherokee, North Carolina. A second caller described a place that was an "authentic Indian village", this is Cherokee. However, there are two parts to the town of Cherokee, one is the reservation which has a village, museum, etc. and is run by the Cherokee tribe. The other part of Cherokee, consists of horrible and inaccurate depictions of "Cherokee life". Stay away from this. It is a tourist trap still using words such as squaw and having hotels named red man motel and a huge Harrah's casino. It is another version, although on a smaller scale, of Gatlinburg. Eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina have beautiful scenery and breath-taking views. You just have to get away from the "cities" to see it. Come and see for yourself.
