Makin Music on the Mighty Mississippi

Dear Rudy, Captain "Doc" Hawley spoke fondly of his steamboating start 50 years ago on the Avalon. Maybe it's just friendly competition that he failed to mention that the Avalon is alive and well as the oldest river steamboat in the country. In 1962, just days away from being lead to the scrap yard, it was bought by the City of Louisville. Earlier this month, that "Belle of Louisville" beat the mighty Delta Queen in the Great Steamboat Race on the Ohio River.

Thanks, Joe
