Who Is My Favorite Travel Writer?

Foremost is Jeanette Belliveau for her An Amateurs Guide to the Planet. Her recountings of travel in places obscure and less than hospitable served as inspiration and spiritual nourishment for my own forays into odd corners of our globe.

Lest you be mislead into thinking her work was in any way gloomy or pessimistic, allow me to assert that she told even the most horrific stories with humor. Moreover, her use of first person narrative meshed uncommonly well with trenchant descriptions and a seasoned reporters knack for presenting both the details and flavor of her experiences in an accessible fashion.

I suppose the highest encomium I can summon is that her book jump-started my too long dormant desire to travel, newly unafraid.

Do yourself a favor. Check it out. you will not regret it.
