St. Nicholas Day in Switzerland

While I was in Lucerne, Switzerland, at Christmas time, I saw a delightful tradition. I was unaware of "St. Nicholas Day"; however, they celebrated in a most charming way! Just about at dinnertime, or shortly after, there came a ringing of bells and laughter and singing from just off the square. Shortly, a costumed "St. Nick," leading a donkey, followed by groups of children, was visible. They were so joyous! There was candy and small presents for all the children. It's a memory I carry fondly. Happy holidays to all at The Savvy Traveler! Thanks for all your helpful tips.
