Cool place for a hot day

I work in one of the coolest places to visit on a hot day: the Soudan Underground Mine State Park in northeastern Minnesota. The park's main attraction is a 2300 foot deep iron mine, the oldest and richest in Minnesota. We take visitors down into the mine in the miner's mancage, a rattly, noisy, crowded steel elevator that plummets half a mile into the earth in 2 1/2 minutes. There visitors board an open train and ride 3/4 of a mile into the ore body, where an interpreter (me, if you are lucky!) talks about the amazing, dirty, dangerous work these miners did.

Northern Minnesota is a cool place on a hot summer day, and the mine is cooler yet--52 degrees year round. Come on up and visit--but bring your jacket, even during the dog days of summer.

I am a faithful listener of SavTrav, except in the summer, when I work every weekend. I thought you might have a category for cool places on a hot day--I hope you will consider Soudan. Thanks for all the great info you provide!!

Debra
