European Discounts

The high-priced days of summer flights to Europe are over, and you can now fly across the pond for a lot less. US Airways this week announced a system-wide sale that can get you between Hartford, Connecticut, and Frankfurt, Germany, for only $298. Or from Pittsburgh to Paris for $350. San Diego to Madrid? Just $568! Now, those are tickets you can buy online for travel Monday through Thursday. Add up to $30 more if you purchase your tickets the old fashioned way. And prices are slightly higher for weekend travel. Traditionally, airfares to Europe are lowest the first two weeks of December during that trough between Thanksgiving and the start of the December holidays and the weeks after the start of the new year. For example, I just picked up a Los Angeles to Paris to Washington DC ticket for about $450 on United right after New Year's. And I wouldn't be surprised if prices fall even further. Right now, the US Airways sale is good for travel through March 29th, but you have to buy your tickets by November third. And you must stay over a Saturday night. Europe at fall and winter prices...that's my Deal of the Week!
