Big changes are underway for all us travelers ... tougher airport security, sky marshals on planes, a predicted 20% cutback in flight schedules, drastic cuts in airline staff. Northwest just cut 10,000 workers, almost 19% of its employees. Talk of an impending police state swirls around the office water cooler discussions lately. Many security facets of our society are under review right now, but we can bet on the fact that the way we travel is going to change immediately and permanently. Flying American carriers will be more like flying El Al from now on. Two veteran travel experts, Paul Lasley and Elizabeth Harriman, who are travel correspondents for Westways Magazine, say that we should take our own precautions. In other words, they advise us to travel defensively.
