World Monument Fund

Since its founding in 1966, the organization has issued The World Monuments Watch, a biannual list of the world's 100 most endangered places. It also give an award each year to a public leader who has enhanced the understanding and preservation of world art and architecture. Past winners of The Hadrian Award include The Prince of Wales, David Rockefeller and His Highness the Aga Khan.

Deal of the Week

The cost of planning a weekend getaway just dropped this week when Marriott unveiled a deal called "Can't beat Friday rates." It's a nationwide promotion that's actually good for not just Friday but also Saturday and Sunday nights.

Savings differ at each location, but here are some examples. A room in New Orleans that two weeks ago cost $149 is now $99. In Boston, a $119 room is half price. In San Diego, the savings aren't that huge--a $139 room is only marked down 14 bucks. But as many as five people can stay in a room, making this a great deal for families.

The small print isn't bad: the offers expire the last day of March, and you have to stay at least a Friday night. Some locations may require you to stay an additional night. But you don't have to book ahead.
