Question of the Week

February 5, 2000

This Week: Travel Music

You know that feeling of...well...just going about your life? You're doing errands or washing the dog and suddenly a song jumps out from the radio. It captures you and rushes you back in time, to a night in London, say, where you first met the love of your life, or Oktoberfest in Munich, where you danced and celebrated with some college buddies.

A couple of weeks ago I asked you to call in with the songs that remind you of past travels. And we heard about music ranging from classical to Madonna.

  • Jennifer in Fort Collins, Colorado has a song that summons images of a past road trip.

  • For Todd in Ventura, California, his song harkens back to a time when he was studying overseas...but not in Paris or London or one of the usual places. Nope...Todd decided to go to the American University in Beirut.

  • Shirley, who lives in Arlington, Virginia, was on a business trip with the U.S. Agency on International Development in Eritrea, West Africa when her song came along.

  • Clark called in from Anchorage, Alaska. His song takes him back to the time when he was just a budding traveler.

Next Week: Where's Paradise?

Tell us about a place you love...the place you consider paradise. For me it's Northern Thailand, near the Golden Triangle, around Chiang Mai. The hills are lush green, the people gentle, the food divine. And the life...well it seems to be easy...easy for a visitor, anyway. I can't imagine a better place to be when I'm snowed in on a cold and dreary day in Washington D.C.

Is there an island or remote destination that defines utopia for you? A place where you would live the easy life if you could? Or maybe you're lucky enough to have found a little slice of paradise in your own backyard...a shady cottage with a porch where you sit on a breezy summer's day?

Send us an email or call 888-SAV-TRAV (888-728-8728) and tell me the place you call Nirvana.
