Kids Need Travel Too

Dear Savvy Traveler:

About 3 months ago you helped us research how our son could travel alone and safely for a month in Europe. You aired our questions and your answers. We took your advice to heart but our son applied it instead to a trip to Ecuador. To make a long story short, he has been there for 6 weeks, stayed in youth hostels in Quito and Banos, forfeited his return ticket and landed a full-time job at an Internet cafe in Quito which, by the way, included a free apartment. He has eaten monkey, parrot and guinea pig, traveled on the back of trucks, rented camping equipment and a motorcycle for a camping trip to the mountains, and he has been treated very well by the locals. I forgot to mention that he didn't know a word of Spanish when he went but has just enrolled in classes which run 3 hours per day. We hope to visit him there in October.

Sincerely,

Proud Parents,
Jill and Albert
